I was introduced to Stuart Rea in 2011 when he became the head coach for Team Utah. As an athlete and stakeholder in the adaptive snowboarding program at the National Ability Center, I turned to Stuart’s experience and professionalism to help grow and strengthen our program.
Through his direction, The National Ability Center played a fundamental role in snowboarding’s inclusion in the 2014 Paralympic Winter games. Stuart has an impressive coaching resume, but that should not overshadow his knowledge of the industry and sport organization. His well-rounded experience allowed him to create a unique pathway for adaptive snowboarders to succeed in the international field.
Stuarts program allowed us to recruit athlete from around the globe including Russia, Australia, Spain, Belgium, and the United Kingdom. With several other programs to choose from, riders chose to train with the National Ability Center because of the quality of coaching as well as off snow resources not often provided by other programs.
Stuart approaches snowboarding as a lifestyle, allowing athletes to grow both physically and mentally to create a solid foundation. Park City is now home to the largest adaptive snowboard team in the world.
It has been both an honor and a pleasure to work with him.
2014 U.S. Paralympian
Stu REA has had a great impact on adaptive snowboarding in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. Many of the US Paralympic team members that represented the USA at the Sochi Paralympic games have been trained by Stu's program at one time or another. His attention to detail and positive approach encourage progression while maintaing a safe training environment."
